Ingram Owns the Finale
Tom Ingram turned the Brands Hatch GP weekend into a personal highlight reel. Victory in Round 28 after a stunning move around the outside of Aiden Moffat. Victory in Round 29 from pole on medium tyres, which in BTCC terms is like winning with one hand tied behind your back. Two wins in a day. Four wins for the season. And the runner-up spot in the championship sealed beyond any doubt. The EXCELR8 Hyundai was rapid through Paddock Hill Bend and Ingram's racecraft was absolutely top drawer all weekend. He has had a frustrating year at times, the Croft penalty and various incidents costing him dearly, but he saved his best stuff for last and left Kent with the kind of weekend that reminds everyone why he has two titles on his CV already.
Moffat Finally Delivers on Saturday
Aiden Moffat put his Power Maxed Audi on pole with two laps faster than anyone else managed in qualifying. He then converted that into a lights-to-flag qualifying race win on Saturday, holding off Ingram behind him. It was his first race win of 2026 and thoroughly deserved after a season where the pace has often been there without the results to match. He led Round 28 on Sunday morning too before a track limits penalty dropped him from second to fourth. That will sting. You could see how much the Saturday win meant to him though and he gave his team something proper to celebrate heading into the off-season.
Collard's Heartbreak in the Final Race
Ricky Collard crossed the line first in Round 30. His first ever BTCC win. The emotion was written all over his face. And then it was taken away. A five-second post-race penalty for breaching the safety car restart procedure dropped him behind Dan Cammish, who inherited the victory. Collard and EXCELR8 appealed but the result stood. That is a genuinely cruel way to end your season, especially for a driver who only got confirmed for this weekend at the last minute after Osamu Kawashima stepped in at Silverstone. He showed proper speed all weekend and that on-the-road victory proved he belongs at this level.
Sutton Signs for Five More Years
The biggest news away from the track dropped midweek. Ash Sutton has signed a new five-year contract with Alliance Racing, keeping him in the NAPA-backed Ford until at least the end of 2031. Five more years of the most dominant driver of his generation. Five more years of watching rivals try to find an answer. The man already has five titles and he is only 32. If he stays fit and Alliance Racing keep developing, we could genuinely be talking about seven or eight championships before he is done. That is a statement of intent from both driver and team. No flirting with other series. No retirement talk. Just pure commitment to the BTCC. As a fan, you love to see it.
The Independent Titles Decided
Mikey Doble went into Brands Hatch as the favourite for the Independent Drivers' title and he got the job done. The Power Maxed Audi driver has been one of the stories of 2026, with race wins at Silverstone and consistent points hauls throughout the year. At 22, he is building something serious. Gordon Shedden and Charles Rainford were both in contention heading to the finale but Doble had enough of a cushion to manage the weekend without taking unnecessary risks. Power Maxed also wrapped up the Independent Teams' championship, which is richly deserved given they ran four cars at various points this season and kept all of them competitive.
Swindon Powertrain Off the Grid for 2027
Here is one that should concern anyone who cares about the health of the BTCC paddock. Swindon Powertrain, the engine builder behind EXCELR8's Hyundai programme since 2022, will not be on the grid next year. Their contract has not been renewed. This is the engine that powered Ingram to two championships and gave Cammish, Collard and others a competitive package all season. EXCELR8 will need a new powertrain partner and that is not a simple swap. The knock-on effects could reach Restart Racing too, who have been Swindon Powertrain customers since 2025. A lot of behind-the-scenes work needs doing before Donington Park in April.
Goodman Signs Off After 30 Years
Louise Goodman called time on her ITV career after three decades of covering British motorsport. If you have watched the BTCC on television at any point since the mid-1990s, her pitlane interviews and grid walks have been part of the fabric of the sport. She made drivers comfortable enough to say something real and she made fans at home feel like they were standing right there in the paddock. Thirty years is an extraordinary innings and whoever replaces her has enormous shoes to fill. The tributes from drivers past and present tell you everything about how respected she is.
Chilton Takes His Final Bow
Tom Chilton's retirement was confirmed before the weekend and Brands Hatch was his last event. More than 560 BTCC race starts. 19 wins. A career that spanned from 2002 to 2026 and included stints in the World Touring Car Championship along the way. His final race ended at the first corner, a cruel way to bow out after 24 years, but the result was never really the point. The paddock gave him a proper send-off. The man has been part of the BTCC scenery for so long that the grid will genuinely feel different without him next year.
The Final Championship Picture
So the 2026 season ends with Sutton as champion for a record fifth time. Ingram secures second after his Brands Hatch double. Cammish finishes with a final-day win to round out a solid top-three campaign. The full standings tell the story of a season where Sutton was simply operating at a different level but the racing behind him was ferociously competitive. Ten different winners across 30 races. Power Maxed establishing themselves as genuine front-runners. Alliance Racing proving that the Ford remains the benchmark. EXCELR8 showing depth with multiple drivers winning on different weekends. Roll on 2027.
