West Surrey Racing are the most decorated and longest-running team in the BTCC. Founded in 1979 by Dick Bennetts, the Wokingham-based outfit have been a constant presence in British motorsport for over four decades, fielding cars for champions including Steve Soper, Will Hoy, James Thompson, Colin Turkington and Rob Collard. The team's association with BMW stretches back many years and they are regarded as the factory BMW partner in the BTCC, running the iconic 330e M Sport and latterly the 128ti. Their engineering department is widely considered to be among the finest in the paddock and they have historically been the benchmark against which rival teams measure themselves. With nine Drivers' Championship victories and five Teams' titles to their name, WSR's record is unmatched in the modern era of the championship. Colin Turkington alone won four titles with the team, making him the most successful driver in BTCC history. The team continues to attract blue-chip sponsorship and remains one of the best-funded and best-resourced operations in the series.
