57-year-old Osamu Kawashima steps into Team VERTU's Hyundai i30N for the final two rounds of the 2026 season, Silverstone and Brands Hatch, taking over the seat vacated by Ricky Collard. Kawashima had been announced earlier in the year as the team's reserve driver, having tested a Speedworks Toyota Avensis back in 2016.
His Silverstone debut makes him the first Japanese driver to compete in the BTCC since Kunimitsu Takahashi raced a Mitsubishi Starion at the same circuit in 1985.
His car number for the two rounds is still to be confirmed.
